Erin Baker came to JSS Barristers as an associate, having completed her articles in Victoria, British Columbia. While articling she advocated in the areas of personal injury and medical malpractice litigation, and also gained experience in family law, wills and estates and conveyancing. She participated in several Continuing Legal Education Seminars and was a member of the Young Lawyers of Victoria. She was called to the Bar in British Columbia in May 2008 and called to the Bar in Alberta in October 2008.
In 2007, Erin obtained her Bachelor of Laws from the University of Alberta. While in law school, Erin volunteered with Student Legal Services gaining experience in both the Criminal law and Civil law divisions. She assisted clients in various types of matters, including landlord and tenant disputes, divorces and DUIs. In addition, she participated in Law Show for two years, once as a dancer and the other as an actor, to raise money for charity. Erin also served on the 2007 Graduation Committee, assisting in the organization of fundraisers and the graduation ceremony itself.
Erin obtained her Bachelor of Arts degree with Distinction from the University of Victoria in 2004. She majored in Anthropology and minored in Sociology. While an undergraduate student, Erin volunteered with the Planned Parenthood Clinic of Victoria. During her undergraduate degree she also traveled extensively during the summer months, including to Australia, New Zealand and Fiji as well as to Quebec to take an intensive French course.
During her time with JSS Barristers, Erin has gained experience representing a wide range of both individual and corporate clients. In particular, Erin practices in the areas of employment law, professional negligence, regulatory and administrative law.
Erin has a particular interest in employment law and works both on behalf of employers and employees. Erin has advised a wide range of employees and also acts for employers in wrongful dismissal litigation. Her employment experience has also involved matters relating to non-competition agreements, violations of confidentiality clauses and human rights complaints.
Erin has appeared numerous times at the Provincial and Superior Court levels in Alberta and British Columbia, including the Court of Appeal of Alberta. In addition, she has participated large scale multi-party arbitrations, as well as in mediations.
In her spare time, Erin enjoys spending time with her husband and son, as well as traveling, cooking, spinning, running and reading.
