Raymond Bastedo obtained his Bachelor of Arts degree, from the University of Victoria in 2001. Before attending law school, Raymond worked at a specialty coffee roaster and café in Victoria B.C. and competed at the Vancouver Island and Canadian Barista Championships.
In 2007 Raymond obtained his Bachelor of Laws from the University of Alberta. Raymond completed his articles with a law firm in Edmonton, gaining experience in a variety of practice areas including personal injury, family litigation, real estate and contract disputes. Raymond moved to Calgary and joined JSS Barristers as an associate in 2008.
Since joining JSS Barristers Raymond has practiced solely in the area of civil litigation, representing clients at all levels of Court in Alberta and at numerous mediations and arbitrations. Raymond has represented clients before the Alberta Securities Commission and the Alberta Utilities Commission. In 2014, Raymond successfully defended an application for leave to the Supreme Court of Canada.
Raymond's practice includes defending clients facing lawsuits for professional negligence, and those charged with significant offences before the Alberta Securities Commission. Other areas of practice include contract disputes (including complex multi-party claims), corporate commercial litigation, oil and gas matters, real estate issues, and construction litigation, including acting for both trades and owners with respect to builders' liens.
Raymond often acts on employment matters both on behalf of employers and employees. Within his employment practice Raymond has worked for clients in the finance, oil and gas, advertising, construction, and technology industries. Raymond provides advice and representation to both employers and employees with respect to their entitlements and obligations associated with the termination of a contract of employment.
Most of Raymond's spare time is spent with his three year old daughter, but he occasionally makes time to go cycling and make bread.
