Christy Elliott was born and raised in Calgary. Before beginning her post-secondary studies, Christy lived in London, England for six years. After arriving in London, Christy worked as a bartender in a Soho jazz club and eventually built a successful career in internet development. She returned to Canada and completed Bachelor of Arts in Political Science (First Class Honours), where she won the 2007 Political Science Medallion. Christy graduated from the Faculty of Law at the University of Calgary in 2010. Before joining JSS Barristers, Christy articled with the Court of Appeal of Alberta, where she worked closely with the Justices of the Court and other court staff. This experience enhanced Christy's keen interest in appellate advocacy.
Over the course of her studies, Christy worked as a research assistant to political science professor Dr. Rainer Knopff, with whom she conducted research on subjects such as the Charter of Rights and Freedoms and Aboriginal harvesting rights. While at law school, Christy was involved in the mooting program and was a member of the 2009 Gale Cup Moot Team which won the national competition in Toronto. Christy and the other members of the Gale Cup team advanced to represent Canada in the 2009 Commonwealth Moot which was held in Hong Kong.
Christy practices exclusively in the area of civil litigation, with specific focus on corporate and commercial litigation, class actions, professional negligence claims, employment law, and regulatory and administrative law. Christy has appeared at all levels of Court in Alberta and at the Supreme Court of Canada. In addition, she has participated in various arbitrations and mediations.
In addition to her practice, Christy has been a tutorial instructor for the first year legal research and writing course at the University of Calgary Faculty of Law, and has volunteered as a coach and judge of the Faculty's mooting program. Christy also presented at a LESA civil litigation seminar for legal support staff.
In her spare time, Christy enjoys spending time with her husband and daughter, refinishing furniture and adding to her wine cellar.
