Oliver Ho

Born and raised in Calgary, Oliver Ho is a graduate of the University of Calgary. He was conferred his B.A. and LL.B. concurrently in 2002, and his MBA in 2016.

In 2019, Oliver was one of only 15 Canadians to be selected for inclusion in Benchmark Litigation’s Top 40 and Under Hot List, and, in 2020, was ranked by Lexpert as a Lawyer to Watch. He has been ranked as a Litigation Star by Benchmark Litigation since 2021, was ranked by Lexpert in 2023 as Repeatedly Recommended in the area of Commercial Litigation, and as a Leading Energy Lawyer in its Special Edition: Energy, and was ranked by Best Lawyers in 2024 in the categories of Trusts and Estates, and Professional Malpractice Law. 

Career in Corporate and Commercial Litigation

After articling and working as an Associate with a large national firm, Oliver joined JSS Barristers, with whom he has worked since 2004. Oliver served as JSS Barristers' Managing Partner between 2022 and 2024; he successfully facilitated navigation of his firm through a variety of post-pandemic issues and continues to do so as a member of JSS Barristers' Executive Committee. During his years in practice, Oliver has had the opportunity to defend physicians and now advances professional negligence claims. In addition, significant portions of Oliver's practice include corporate and commercial litigation, shareholders disputes, franchise litigation, estate litigation, administrative law, and class action lawsuits. Oliver has worked extensively with and for clients of all sizes from individuals, private companies and public companies with international operations, and has appeared before all levels of Court in Alberta, and the Supreme Court of British Columbia. Oliver adopts a pragmatic approach to resolving clients' disputes and has assisted hundreds of clients in finding effective solutions.

Awards and Recognitions

In July 2017, Oliver was featured in the Federation of Asian Canadian Lawyers’ Spotlight Series featuring inspiring Asian Canadian lawyers. In 2019, Oliver was selected as a Future Star by Benchmark Litigation Canada; later that same year, Oliver was also selected for inclusion in Benchmark Litigation’s Top 40 and Under Hot List representing law firm partners aged 40 and under who are among the top litigators in the U.S. and Canada. After being named by Lexpert as a Lawyer to Watch in 2020, the same year he received the Alberta Excellence in Mentoring Award by the Advocates’ Society, Oliver was promoted to the Repeatedly Recommended category by Lexpert in 2023. Oliver believes strongly in mentorship and sits on the Canadian Bar Association - Alberta Branch, Mentorship Taskforce.

Community

Oliver served four years as an elected member of the Senate of the University of Calgary and was a member of the selection committee for the first Dean of the University of Calgary Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, and once again sat on the selection committee (in 2023-2024) for the Dean of the Faculty of Law. He has also been an interviewer facilitating the admissions process for the medical school at the University of Calgary and was on the Admissions Committee for the University of Calgary Faculty of Law. Additionally, Oliver was a Board Member of the Legal Archives Society of Alberta for over a decade, is an Advisor to the Federation of Asian Canadian Lawyers Western, and was a Board Member of Calgary Arts Development, the City of Calgary’s designated arts development authority. Currently, Oliver serves as a member of the Board of Directors of the Calgary Zoo and the Wilder Institute.

Oliver has been a volunteer judge for various University of Calgary Faculty of Law moot teams, is a volunteer judge and evaluator for the CPLED articling program, a coach for various high school debate teams, and a judge for the Canadian Bar Association Law Day Trial Competition and has been a sessional instructor at the Haskayne School of Business at the University of Calgary.

Personal

Having competed for the University of Calgary as a member of the varsity track & field team, Oliver has continued to fulfill his interest in athletics by competing in triathlons and marathons. Oliver is also an accomplished musician having been recognized in national and international competitions. Oliver's ensembles have released a number of albums and have performed concert tours on five continents. Presently, Oliver sings and plays keyboard for the firm's band, The Advo-Cats, who have recorded no albums and have performed on only one continent.

何明奥

何明奥在卡尔加里出生长大,毕业于卡尔加里大学。何律师于 2002 年获得文学学士学位的同时获得了法学学士学位,随后于 2016 年获得工商管理硕士学位。

何律师在一家大型全国律师事务所实习并工作几年后加入了 JSS Barristers,至今已在此工作十余年。何律师在执业期间曾多次为医师辩护,如今在职业过失纠纷领域亦有所专长。此外,何律师的主要执业领域还包括公司和商业诉讼(包括建筑和房地产诉讼、破产重组等)、行政法(包括证券听证)以及集体诉讼。何律师曾为各种规模的客户提供专业咨询服务,从个人到拥有国际业务的公司。何律师也曾代表众多客户处理在阿尔伯塔的各级法院和英属哥伦比亚省最高法院提起的诉讼,持续为客户提供有效且高效的解决方案。

何律师曾当选为卡尔加里大学参议员,任期四年(2002 年至 2005 年),并曾是卡尔加里大学兽医系首位院长选拔委员会的一员。他还曾担任卡尔加里大学医学院招生程序的常任面试官,并曾就职于卡尔加里大学法律系的招生委员会。此外,何律师目前还同时担任阿尔伯塔法律档案协会的董事会成员、加拿大亚裔律师联合会(西部分会)的顾问和卡尔加里艺术发展局(卡尔加里市的指定艺术发展机构)的董事会成员。

何律师曾担任卡尔加里大学法学院模拟法庭的志愿法官,目前是 CPLED 实习项目的志愿法官和评审员、多个高中辩论队的教练以及加拿大律师协会法律日庭审大赛的评委。

何律师还兼任卡尔加里大学 Haskayne 商学院的临时讲师。

作为一名校田径队队员,何律师曾代表卡尔加里大学参加比赛。何律师现在还会参加铁人三项和马拉松比赛,始终保持着自己对体育的热爱。此外,何律师还是一位颇有成就的音乐家,在各种全国和国际竞赛中都曾获得过奖项。何律师的乐团已发布多张专辑,并曾在五大洲的音乐会上巡演。何律师现在是本所乐队 The Advo-Cats 的主唱兼键盘手,该乐队目前尚未发行任何专辑,只在一个大洲表演过。
