Trent joined JSS Barristers as an associate in 2012 and had previously worked as an articling student and a summer student with the firm. Trent graduated from the Faculty of Law at the University of Calgary. During his legal studies Trent volunteered as a member of the trial division with Student Legal Assistance and sat on the Students' Union Review Board. Trent was also a member of the Faculty of Law Health Law moot team which won the Bennett Jones Cup in Health Law Advocacy and was a member of the Faculty rugby team, winners of the 2010 Western Canadian Law Rugby Championship.

Prior to law school Trent worked as a Transport Officer with Alberta Transportation and as an Inspector with the Alberta Gaming and Liquor Commission. Trent has a Bachelor of Professional Arts in Governance, Law and Management from Athabasca University and a Diploma in Criminal Justice from Lethbridge College.

Trent is an avid traveller, having made trips to South America, Central America, Europe and Asia. During the summer months Trent plays as much softball and golf as he can.
