Junior Associate

JSS Barristers is an established and respected litigation law firm in Calgary, Alberta.  We are currently accepting applications for an Associate Lawyer position.  The ideal candidate will have a strong academic record and be a member of the Alberta Bar with 2 to 4 years of experience practising law.

2027/28 Articling Student

JSS Barristers is a civil litigation boutique. Advocacy is our business. Our lawyers have extensive experience as trial advocates and have appeared at all levels of the Courts of Alberta and Canada, including the Supreme Court of Canada. The firm also provides advocacy services before regulatory bodies such as the Alberta Securities Commission, the Alberta Energy Regulator and the Law Society of Alberta. Additionally, alternative dispute resolution processes such as mediations and arbitrations form an integral part of the practice at JSS Barristers.

The reputation of the lawyers of JSS Barristers in the legal community and among its clients sustains the firm's practice. We are looking for highly motivated, intelligent and dedicated individuals to join the firm, expand its practice and work towards further enhancing the reputation of JSS Barristers. JSS Barristers is accepting applications for two articling student positions for the 2027/2028 articling year. We are seeking students with strong academic credentials, attention to detail, demonstrated work ethic, and commitment to excellence.

Articling students at JSS Barristers support our lawyers in various stages of litigation, under supervision, and are assigned to work with a principal lawyer who will provide guidance and mentoring, as well as appropriate feedback to promote professional development. Students are encouraged to make the most of their opportunity working with all members of the firm including partners, associates, other students and professional staff.

While there are no formal rotations, JSS Barristers is open to coordinating with other businesses and organizations to provide exposure to additional fields, such as criminal, family law, and corporate commercial work, which are outside the scope of our practice focus, if desired by the successful applicant.

Minimum qualifications:

  1. A law degree.
  2. Strong academic performance in law school.
  3. High quality written and oral communication skills.
  4. Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work effectively in a team.
